DIXIE HIGHWAY

Tara got to thinking that maybe she should toss her list. She had put three dealers on it that were no longer in business. I took the list, antique furniture Chicago and threw it out. We then went to a number of suburbs where we knew that there were quite a few antique dealers. I wondered how there could be so many dealers of antiques. My theory is that there are factories in China that built these things for pennies on the dollar. I just imagined an entire factory given over to making antique furniture. If you think about it, it is an art form. The art of making something looked aged and use, when it is only hours old, really. We went to Crete, where there are a number of dealers right on Dixie Highway. Sue popped in and out of each, seeing if the dealer had her bedroom set. None had what she was looking for, exactly. One came close. Tara wanted to get he set, then she saw something she didn't like. What, I don't know. She was not saying. It was just a flaw, is all she would say. We drove up the street to another dealer. This time it looked like we had been there before.
